The other night we popped into the Criterion Restaurant in Piccadilly Circus for a quick Kir Royal before dinner. We were headed to another classic venue, Le Caprice, but wanted to check out the Criterion, since we had heard so much about it.
The restaurant opened in 1873 and is classic art nouveau in architecture and style. The main dining room has appeared in literature (Sherlock Holmes) and film — most recently in Downtown Abbey as the location where Lady Edith Crawley meets up with her paramour, Michael Gregson.
We’re in the process of building out the new Savvy Navigator website, and these places will be profiled as Savvy Favorites. We loved the Criterion and Le Caprice, and If you’re a fan of these kinds of venues, send us a note and we’ll be happy to include your ideas on the new site!
