I was lucky enough to visit India for the first time a few years ago, and my favorite city on the trip was undoubtably Jaipur. My head nearly exploded walking around this merchant city with its vast open-air markets.
Hands down, the cool and luxurious place to stay in Jaipur is the Raj Palace (which actually still has the royal Maharajah family living in apartments in the back of the compound). Centrally located and full of anachronistic luxury and charm, it was one of my favorite hotel stays of all time.
